The Sanctuary Society

Jesus Christ is Risen, Alleluia! He is Risen indeed, Alleluia!

Happy Easter! This past week there was a gathering of about 25 people as part of the St. Willebrord Parish Sanctuary Society annual luncheon. The luncheon is an event that the society has organized for many years. The group organizes the meal as an act of gratitude and community solidarity among the women of the parish. Every woman, by virtue of being a member of our parish, is a member of the society.

The Sanctuary Society has as its mission to support the parish liturgical activities. Many of the women who are active in the group are also those who serve the community in various ministries at Mass. The group also raises money used to buy hosts, altar wine, liturgical linens, altar cloths, vestments, candles, incense, altar server albs, church decorations, etc. The bake sales and Advent raffle at the beginning of December are two of the fund-raisers they sponsor. These same women have arranged the volunteers schedule for washing the linens used at our parish Masses. With at least 18 Masses each week, their efforts are very important and much appreciated.

I am sure you have noticed and thought about the beauty and cleanliness of our church. Flowers, decorations, subtle movement of altar furniture and other details receive the attention of quiet volunteers who work in the background. These volunteers use their artistic talents, physical strength, and light touch to create a beautiful worship space. If you happen to know these persons, please thank them regularly. They do not work for praise, but they deserve it nonetheless. Some of those who are involved in this ministry are members of the Sanctuary Society, or our Worship Committee, or the Art and Environment Committee. If you are interested in any of these groups or becoming more involved in the parish, call the office and inquire.

On another note, please congratulate and bless those who are receiving Sacraments in these recent weeks: 12 youth Confirmed, more than 35 children who have or will receive First Communion, another 5 to be confirmed next weekend, and many new babies will be baptized in the coming weeks. Of course, we will be celebrating many weddings throughout the summer. Please pray for those who are making a commitment of love with God and to one another.

Jesus is Risen, Alleluia!

Peace, Fr. Andy
